16 Weeks - Avocado - Who Wants Some Guacamole?

I have a feeling that after this pregnancy has resulted in a little bebe I'm going to want to be able to remember this special period of time. My husband bought me a pregnancy journal for a birthday present that I am using but I am going to try to keep up with weekly record keeping of the same criteria week to week. I'm going to give it the old college try at least. :)

Week 16 - The Bump Fruit Size: Avocado

Size of Baby/ This week's fruit: Avocado. Hmm right off the bat and we are switching it up since an avocado is a vegetable.

Cravings: I haven't had any weird cravings at all so far. I've mostly just craved junk food. Pizza, doughnuts, all of the Publix bakery and once in awhile I will really crave something salty like crackers or chips.

What I love now: The fact that I have just a bit of a belly all day now. It use to be that I only really "showed" in the evening when bloat was at play but it looks like the belly has moved in for good these days!

Symptoms: Just some very mild soreness from time to time. My abdomen always feels tight. Pregnancy brain is in FULL effect over here. I feel a bit like Dory from Finding Nemo in most things....I think. :) It seems that my burping and difficulty with indigestion and food have finally gone away which was my biggest issue in the 1st trimester. I'm a lucky girl who never had any morning sickness.

Highlight of the week: Our 16 week appointment. Everything looked good, baby's heartbeat was in the 150s (it hadn't been below 160 till this point). And the most exciting part of the appointment, scheduling our 20 week anatomy scan ultrasound (aka the gender ultrasound) for the end of the month. I'm amazed at how fast this has all gone so far. 20 weeks is the half way point in a pregnancy. It blows my mind that we are almost at that point. We have a boy name and a girl name picked out which is exciting. While it is very exciting that we will know the gender of our baby soon I'm most excited about having the chance to see our baby again (first ultrasound was at 8 weeks) and to know that we have a healthy baby. As far as gender preference, we have none. None at all. I feel sort of cliche that I'm saying that and it use to really bug me when pregnant women would say that because I figured that they did have a preference and just didn't want to look like they didn't want a particular sex but I realize now how true it is to say "we just want a healthy baby". I just can't wait to know this baby a little bit better after our next appointment!

Little Peanut

Where do you even begin when you are writing a post about a new life growing inside of you?

About your first child.

About a baby. Your baby.

Kinda some heavy stuff, you know?

We live in South Carolina. It's a state known for its palmetto and crescent moon flag, for the low country and amazing seafood. And peanuts. Mainly boiled peanuts. Which is pronounced "bowled" if you are truly a native of the state.

And now we have our very own little South Carolina peanut on the way.

Our baby is a little bit bigger then a peanut these days, according to the weekly fruit updates I get each week that clue me in to all the amazing things that the baby is up to. Like growing fingerprints, bones and muscles. Its forming an image and an identity along with creating a strong and functioning body.

This will be a summer baby. We are at 16 weeks right now. In a month we will get to see our baby again . We will get to see a small beating heart and and take another step closer in learning who this baby is.

It's hard to know how to start a post about the life growing inside of you. This amazing blessing that has entered our life. I'm finding it's even harder to end a post about this little miracle. Because right now my heart is just full with the wonder of a new beginning.
